About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Morris is a printmaker. Most of her etchings stem from two Island environments. These are, Heir Island in West Cork, where for years she's spent part of the summers and of course Mersea Island, the place where the coastline, and in particular the tiny Packing Marsh, provide many of the 'starting off points' for her prints. Her work begins with sketches from life. These are then used for a design which is drawn on the prepared copper plate and is 'bitten' in acid. Various techniques, including aquatint, add textures to the image. Proofs of each stage are taken and when all is satisfactory, she can print the edition on her sturdy 'Rochat' press. Her work has been shown widely in East Anglia and several times at the R.A. Summer Show. Two complete editions were commissioned for the P&O cruise ship 'Oriana' and recently her work has been included in Ian Collins' book 'East Anglian Places'.
