About Jane

P. JANE HUNTER, PRINTMAKER AND PAINTER Jane graduated with a BA in Textile Design at Central St Martins, London and started working as a textile designer mainly within the fashion trade. She changed to a career in education working in a range of educational settings and holding a variety of roles. After leaving London and returning to Essex Jane attended print making courses at Colchester Institute and Gainsborough’s House Print workshop which renewed her interest and love of drawing, printing and painting. Jane now makes linocut prints in her garden studio on Mersea Island where she lives and exhibits prints locally and sells online through her website. Jane's inspiration comes from walking, drawing and photographing Mersea Island, rivers Blackwater and Colne and the Suffolk and Essex coastline. The designs start with photographs and drawings and evolve through the printmaking process back in the studio. Her aim is to make images that capture and celebrate the essence of East Anglian coastal villages, towns, sailing and fishing. In 2021 she joined Mersea Island Artists and in 2022 became a member of 12 PM (12 Printmakers) Jane has exhibited in the following galleries ; Colchester The Minories, Ipswich School of Art Gallery, Mersea Island Oyster Gallery, Aldeburgh The Courtyard Arts Gallery, Paper House Gallery, Framlingham, Geedon Gallery Fingringhoe, Wivenhoe The Sentinel Gallery, Woodbridge, Arts Space Gallery.
