Mavina is an artist printmaker, making work that's influenced by the ever-changing and fragile shoreline near her home; she also makes artists’ books. Her practice is experiential and she develops her ideas through the action of making, seeking to capture the essence of a subject in its simplest form, often she carves directly into the wood, drawing as she cuts. Awarded an MA with merit in multi-disciplinary printmaking she’s explored many methods of printmaking, from potato cuts with young children, using acid baths for intaglio, through to letterpress and relief. Always particularly interested in printmaking by hand Mavina considers that that is the main drive and thread which connects all her work and the expressive qualities of woodcut and collage have become her preferred mediums. Her books and prints are held in several collections including: Manchester Metropolitan University, University for the Creative Arts, UWE Bristol, the Artists’ Book Collection at Bank Street Arts, University of Michigan USA and at Columbia University in New York City. Her book works are published under her Teacup Press imprint.
